GSB Frequently Asked Questions

What is the GSB Online Classroom?

The GSB Online Classroom allows for state-of-the-art delivery of internet seminars. We're using some of the top faculty from the Graduate School of Banking to provide participants with the best information in a variety of critical areas affecting the business of banking.

These are not point-and-click, text based programs. They are LIVE, interactive seminars powered by the Microsoft Live Meeting platform - one of the most user-friendly and highly rated online meeting platforms available - which are delivered over the Internet so that you're able to attend via the convenience of your computer. This saves you, and your organization, time and money. Feel free to invite others from your organization to participate and gather around a single computer or use an LCD projector to project the presentation onto a screen in your boardroom or training room.

What is Microsoft Live Meeting?

MS Live Meeting is an interactive environment used to hold meetings or seminars online. MS Live Meeting runs in a normal browser program such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. See system requirements below.

Are the online seminars interactive?

Absolutely! When you log onto your GSB Online Seminar classroom an Audience Console will appear on the left hand side of the screen. This allows you to chat with other attendees, send e-mail questions to the presenter, participate in discussions, and respond to audience survey polling questions throughout the seminar. The presenter will also hold various open-mic. sessions where participants can ask questions or interject comments regarding the topic being discussed.

What do I need to participate in an online seminar?

To participate in a live GSB Online Seminar you will need a computer with an Internet connection, a Web Browser, and a telephone. The computer and Internet connection will deliver the video portion of the seminar (Audience Console, presenter slides, interactive audience surveys, and discussion areas) and the telephone will provide you with the audio portion.

NOTE: You MUST have the ability to speak on the phone during the seminar and use the Internet at the same time. This may require two phone lines, or an Internet connection and separate phone line.

Can others in my organization participate in the online seminar?

Yes. When you register for a GSB online seminar, you are welcome to invite other staff from your organization to attend and still pay only ONE registration fee. Feel free to gather around a single computer or use an LCD projector to project the seminar onto a screen.

Please note: Your registration gets you ONE connection into the GSB Online Classroom. While we encourage registrants to invite others from their bank to participate at no additional charge, the additional participants CANNOT all be logged into the live seminar at their own computers. You should gather around a single computer or project the presentation onto a screen using an LCD projector. We track connection usage for each seminar and banks will be billed the full seminar fee for any extra connections they use.

Our bank has multiple branches. Can we all participate in the seminar?

You are billed for each connection into the GSB Online Classroom. Therefore, if you have multiple branches that would like to participate in the seminar, you will need to register each branch separately. You may choose to register a single location and then invite staff from the other branches to attend the seminar at that location. If there are geographic limitations, some banks have registered a couple of branches located in different geographic areas and then invited staff from local offices in those areas to attend the seminar at the closest participating branch. Again, you will need to register each participating branch separately so they will each be able to have a connection into the classroom.

System requirements:

  • Windows 98SE, NT, 2000, XP, 2003, Web browser: Internet Explorer 6.x and above, or Netscape Communicator 7.0 and above Internet Connection: 28.8K and above RAM: 32 MB Monitor: SVGA (1024x768 pixels)
  • Telephone: Touch-tone telephone. A speakerphone works best so your hands are free to take notes during the seminar.

NOTE: You MUST have the ability to speak on the phone during the seminar and use the Internet at the same time. This may require two phone lines, or an Internet connection and separate phone line.

Are there class materials for the participants prior to the online seminar?

Yes. After you receive your confirmation from GSB for your online seminar registration, you will receive access to a resource site location approximately 3-5 business days prior to your seminar where you can download the presenters' slides, handouts and outline.

Can you give me a sample of what an online seminar classroom looks like on my computer?

Certainly. Simply click on the link below and you can watch a GSB Online Classroom demo. You'll learn more about the Audience Console, the online presentation format, and the audio connection.

GSB Online Classroom Orientation Room

Enter your name in the Name box and press the "Enter" button. The first time you visit, you will need to wait several minutes for the console to load. You may want to install the "Plug-in" if the console suggests it. (Look for a "Details" section.)

Once you are in, you will see a self-cycling demo that will teach you about the GSB Online Classroom.

I noticed that my seminar is being delivered over multiple weeks and has various class times available (morning and afternoon.) Can I switch to other class times during the seminar period? What if I have a conflict that arises and I can't attend one of my scheduled class times?

We are limited to the number of seats available for each class. Due to this limitation, we are unable to allow participants to switch from scheduled morning classes to afternoon classes (and vice versa) when a conflict arises. If you will miss a session, perhaps someone else at your organization can observe the program in your absence, or others participating in the program on your staff can share their notes with you. Remember, additional staff at your organization may participate at no additional charge when you register for a GSB online seminar.

How do I register to participate in an online seminar? Will I receive a confirmation?

To participate in a GSB online seminar, you need to visit the section on the GSB web site that lists all of the programs available , click on the seminar you'd like to attend, and then complete and submit the online registration form found on that page. Once your registration is received, you will receive an email confirmation from GSB.
